BILLIARDS.

[Home News, April 23.] An Exhibition Billiard match of 1000 up has been played between W. Cook (champion) and W. Mitchell, the latter receiving 200 points start, the same terms* it will be remembered, on which the match for money was played. The Sheffielder began with breaks of 70 and 65 (12 spots), but with 134 (43 spots) and 75 Cook reduced his opponent's lead to 38., The latter, however, again went ahead, his chief break being 86 (26 spots). Cook replied with 83 (25 - spots), and, after the interval, put together a splendid break of 347) 19 4, and 68 spots). The break gave him a long lead—B23 to 592. Mitchell failed to do anything, and Cook went from 880 to 97 5, in a break of 115 (29 spots). Mitchell then had his opportunity. Beginning at 612, he got on the spot at 636, and put the red down 102 consecutive times. This brought his score to 942. At 948 he again got into position, and with 18 more spots he won the game by 25 points. His full break was 388 (102 and 18 spot shots). An offer by Cook to concede 250 points in 1000 on a championship table has been declined by Mitchell. W. Cook, and W. Mitchell are arranging a fresh match, on the same terms (200 in 1000 up) as the late one, the stakes to be increased to £2OO a side.
