DUNEDIN QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HANDICAP.

[FRO:.! THE MORNING HERALD.] The well-bred colt Adamant scored a double by winning two of the principal events of the moeting—the Birthday and Tradesmen's Handicaps. The lot were dismissed to an excellent start, the favorite making a waiting race. Blue Peter assumed the lead as they entered the straight, and was followed by. York, Adamant, Satellite, and Titania, in the order named. On approaching the rear of the course, Titania came up and passed Satellite, who fell back badly beaten, and Adamant took the. lead, with York second, and Blue Peter third. The favorite speedily went through her horses, ex-, bept Adamant, who entered the straight full of running with a lead of two lengths. And though Titania was under the whip, she did not succeed in getting on even terms with Adamant, who won hands down by three clear lengths, Titania second, York (a length behind) third, Blue Peter three lengths away, and Satellite last. Time, 2min. 58sec. Of the amount (£173) in the Totalisatorj only £2d was on Adamant.
