Melbourne, upon ipstructiOns from the Minister; for foreign Affairs, dated 14 th Mailch, 1878. •We are infopmed that dealers, ih medicine often try to selfthe eacylyptus oil found, in the trade, instead of our Euclyptus Extract. So-for.as the.committing, of imposition .against the, public in such a case is concerned, the fconseqnenOes -Would not be serious; but aS the qualities of both of the 1 pi4diic& are ih many bases directly opposed to ohb another, We consider itouV .duty .fo direct the' public attention to the following facts:— ;. ,: ■ r . The eucalyptus oil is recorded to W of value as a medicament in cases *of rhebrilatism of secondary imtiire, and manifests a drawing, ' blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought on Iby the application of a medicament must increase inflamatioh, and it is therefore, evident that in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis," diptheria> croup, &c., the curative power of dur extract on the named diseases being ably proved by former publicationfelri this paper. An application of thebil instead of our extract must impair the diseased. The truth of our assertion is founded upon the fact that the Oil is a ■ resinoud product equivalent to common. turpentine, its market value being about three shillings oriS pound Weight; odr extract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, Soothing and healing in its effects, its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound weight.
