Christchurch, May 5. In consequence' of a secondary occur-" rence of diphtheria at the Lytteltort Orphanage, the medical officer of the* institution was led to make a careful examination of the rooms in which the disease occurred. He had some flooring taken up, and at once found ..sufficient cause for the outbreak. The ground was sodden, giving out unpleasant and nn* healthy odours. It had been imagined thdt from the Very nature of the building there could not possibly be any lodgment of water under the floors, and the discovery took ,the Charitable Aid Board by surprise. Such sanitary improvements as are deemed necessary will be effected immediately. Westport, May 6, Oswald Curtis, one of the Royal Com--missioners on Railways, and Mitchell, shorthand reporter, arrived from Reef toil last evening, and left for Nelson by the Murray this morning.- The other members of the Commission went to Nelsoil overland from Lyell.
