BRITISH AND FOREIGN. LONiJoy, April 26. Adelaide flour is qn'ote'd at 38s per 280 lbs, ex warehouse. At the wool sale to-day, 9300 bales were catalogued; hiakiug a total of 61,500 offeredsince the opening. Prices were firmly maintained. Pig iron has fallen to 54a, in consequence of the depressed state of trade; Sydney copra is quoted at £lB. April 27. The following further additional appointments to the New Ministry have been announced i—Sir William Vernon Harcouft becomes Secetary of State for the Home Department, and the Duke of Argyle fills the position of Lord President of the Council. Mr Q. J. Goschen and Lord Roseberry were offered, but declined; portfolios in the new Ministry. Gladstone experiences a difficulty in the formation of the new Ministry owing to some Radicals having claimed portfolios.
Calcutta, April 27. The latest news from Afghanistan announces further fightiDg in Ghuznee. The hostile tribes were again assuming a threatening aspect, and General
.Stewart cohsequently attacked anil dislodged them from the lieiglTts'surrounding Ghttznee. The enemy li;ive retreated to the mountainous country beyond the city. Intelligence also has been received of the resumption of hostilities "at Cabnl. The Afghans attacked General Jenkins and M'Plierson at Charasaib, but after heavy fighting were repulsed with severe loss. The British loss during the action was trifling.
