NIHILISTS AND THE CZAR.
The St. Petersburg correspondent of a German paper states that notwithstanding the utmost care which is now taken to keep the Czar's person in safety, dangerous individuals, Nihilists, and conspirators having designs upon his life manage to get very near him, if not actually into las presence, in various diguises. One man approached him through the chimney in the disguise of a chimney-sweep. Officers' regimentals and policemen's uniforms are favorite costumes with the persons referred to. Some days ago the correspondent instances as a case in point; an officer presented himself in the Czar's ante-room, claiming admission to his Majesty on the plea of being the bearer, of dispatches from General Gourko. The . Czar's aide-de-camp on duty; entertained some suspicion of the officer being' an impersonator, which was. confirmed in the course of a short conversation. He therefore secretly telegraphed to General Gourks to repair at once to the palace. Gpneral Gourko came, and the pretending offi- : cer was detected. He was at once. carried off to prison.
