Prior to the business of the Resident Magistrate’s Court commencing at Stafford Town yesterday, the Magistrate, Dr Giles, remarked from the Bench that - he was afraid the Government were -not going to undertake the repairs so greatly neededinthe Court House, and, under those circumstances, the Court would have to be closed and all the business transacted at the Court at Goldsborough. ' At a meeting of the Arahura Road Board, held at Stafford Town yesterday, it was resolved to fill the three seats that are now vacant in the Board. The nominations for this purpose will be taken on the 28th inst., and the poll, if necessary, on the Bth of May. A meeting of the Westland Waste Lands Board was held in Hokitika on Wednesday last, when it was resolved that the Governor be requested to make a recreation reserve in the Borough of Kumara. The Borough Council of Kumara requested an alteration in the survey of the cemetery, so as to include the portion fenced in. After some consideration the Board decided that, as the Boundaries were gazetted, they could not be altered. It was resolved to give public notice to the occupiers of sections with improvements made in the town of Kumara, that the Board intend putting up the said sections to auction, and that applicants to purchase must apply to the Land Office on or before May 10th next.

The Boronglx Council of Kumara applied to have a reserve of 50 acres within the Borough as an endowment. It was decided to forward the application to the Governor, to bo dealt with under the terms of the Municipal Corporations Act.

On the Liberal side 190 represented constituencies in England and 71 in li’eland, the latter including 60 Heme Rulers and ten followers of Mr Farnell. There were 41 Liberal Scotch members, giving a total of 302 Liberals. For the new Parliament there were 120 seats uncontested, while for the remaining seats there were 476 Liberal candidates, 463 Conservatives, and 75 Home Rulers, including 20 direct followers of Mr Parnell. '’
