The inward English mail via San Francisco will arrive by the tram from Greymouth this evening. A meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, the full report of which is held over until to-morrow. From a paragraph that appears in the West Coast Times of to-day, we learn the Westland County Council have increased the subsidy to the Kurnara Hospital by £25 per annum, making a total of £IOO per year to that institution. We acknowledge the receipt of the “Report on Local Industries, Westland,” as prepared by the Hokitika committee, from the honorary secretary. From our advertising columns it will be seen that Mr Lohmann, of Dillman’s Town, with a view to meet the requirements of the residents of that locality and also save them the trouble of visiting town for their goods, announces that he has imported a large stock of boots, drapery, and provisions, which he will offer at less than town prices. A grand art-union, to be drawn on the Queen’s birthday, is announced by Mr John Hannah, of this town, the first prize of which is “fifty golden sovereigns.” The remainder of the prizes, which consist of jewellery, are well worthy of inspection, as they are a superior class of goods to those usually offered for prizes ; and the winners will in this instance, have good value for their outlay.
