PERFORMANCES OF TEMPLETON.

To give a full summary of grand old Templeton’s performances (pays Sinbad in the Press) would occupy more space than I could well afford, but I condense the following items in memory of the gamest little horse that ever carried a saddle on the New Zealand tuff. He was bred, it is almost needless to say, in 1870 by Mr Del a main, at Yaldhurst, and where by the way he nearly killed that popular sportsman when a youngster, fie was by Traducer out of Belle of the Isle, by Malton, out of Spray. He stood about 15.1, and though in every respect a small horse, was a model of compactness and symmetry. His three-year-old peiformances were not over successful, but it must be remembered his opponents at this time were of a very high class, amongst them being Lurline, Calumny, Castaway, and Papapa. His first win was in 1874, when he won the Forbury and Flying Handicaps at the Dunedin meeting. His foilr-year-old performances were very numerous, his best being winning the Dunedin Cup, D.J.C. Handicap and Town Plate, Awddand Cup and Town Plate, and and Gi’and Stand Handicaps at Christchurch. As a five-year-oldAis best performance was winning the Great Autumn Handicap from a field of eight. As a six-vear-old he won the North Otago Turf Club Handicap, the Metropolitan Handicap (Christchurch) the Dunedin Cup and D.J.C. Handicap, and, later on in the same year (1878), won the Canterbury from six others. After this, though ' O

lie seldom failed to figure prominently in any event in which he was engaged, he scored no win, with the exception of the Christchiiich Plate, at the last Metropolitan Meeting.

Had it not been for the accident which caused his death, it was, I believe, the intention of the owner to put him to the stud at the commencement of next season.
