Wellington, April 6. It i& probable'that Parliament will be called together, for despatch of business, on 26 th May. W. H. Levien, M.H.R., the senior member for the city, addressed his constituents this evening, In a lengthy address he recapitulated his action during the late session. He estimated the deficiency to to March 31st at about one million and fifty thousand pounds ; but this would be reduced by £330,000 by entrenchment in various departments. At the conclusion Mr Levien received a unanimous vote of confidence.

April 7. The inqnest on the fatal fire at Awhuri commenced this moraine. In accordance with the recommendation in the report of the Native Commissioners, Mr Parris has been instructed to proceed at once with the survey of the reserve awarded to Honi Pihana, and to cut the front survey line of the reserve allotted to the Ngatiruanui tribe. OAMAim, April 6. A man narn«ci John Robertson was killed last night by a fall from his horse. He was returning from town, and when going round a corner of the road his horse fell, and threw its rider with so much force on the head that he sustained concussion of the brain, and died the same night. He leaves a widow and six children.

DuNEDiy, April 6. At the Supreme Court, to-day, Butler's trial for murder was fixed for Thursday week. Christchurch, April 6. The criminal session was finished today. Barringer, whose case seemed to cause the authorities a good deal of perplexity, was remanded for trial till the next session, as the Judge considered the words " next session," in the warrant of committal, could not refer to the present sitting, though the magistrate intended them to do so.

The Champion Fours, at the Kaiapoi Regatta, to-day, were won by the local club after an exciting race with the Canterbury Bowing Club'screw. InVercargill, April 6. An inquest was held in the gaol this afternoon touching the death of a prisoner named John Wilson, undergoing a four years' sentence for forgery, who died suddenly on Monday. The iuquiry lasted all the afternoon, and was adjourned till Monday next.

At the police Court, to-day, the boy Arthur Cox, who, it will be remembered, was one of the principal witnesses in the late inquest at Wallacetown, was charged with the murder of the boy Robert Curtis. A remand was applied for, and granted. Auckland, April 7. A public house and store at Minih&, Russell, in the occupation of William Greenleaf, was totally destroyed by fire. The store was insured in the

South British for £l5O. The Colonial has a risk on the stock, but the amount is unknown.

G. Grey reached Kawau by the steamer Blanche yesterday afternoon, and were met by Sir George Grey and Seymour George, and heartily welcomed. Sir. George is in 'excellent health, and walked for miles over the Uland,"pointing out places of interest, and calling attention to the rare plants and flowers') many seeds'of which and "plants -were given to the .visitors, also a parcel of books for the Thames Public Library. Sir George Grey stated that it is his intention to leave in a few weeks for Canterbury and, Invercargill, having received; numerous invitaiions to address electors" in southern constituencies. The party remained all night, psssing a very pleasant evening in his library, where the old books and manuscripts were shown. At an early hour a tour of the island was made, the old copper mine visited, and .the lodes, quartz, and maganese, lately discovered by Seymour George were pointed ouk ■Mr Philips, manager of the maganese works'at/the Bay of Islands, arrived last night for the purpose of reporting On the lode: The Blanche,"with the party, left at noon for the Thames, calling at Waiwera.
