ANOTHER CHESS TOURNEY.

In accordance with the resolution of chessplayers at the. meeting on Thursday last, another chess handicap tournament is how formally announced, and the entries .close on Saturday evening next, so .that all gentlemen wishing to participate in the same should-notify their intention to some member of the managing committee (whose names appear in the advertisement) on or before that day. Although this may seem to some persons (and we cannot but confess that we are of the same opinion) that this tournament follows rather soon the last one, the unanimous resolution of so large a meeting must be taken as an omen that the interest in chess is not to lay dormant j some three or four weeks have elapsed since the games which decided who were the victors in the late tournament were contested, and two or three must elapse before the handicap for the next can be announced and the time for acceptance expire. Moreover, there are several new players who, seeing the interest manifested in the recent contest, have been anxiously waiting for another campaign that they may join issue in the kingly warfare. The present tournament will be on a somewhat different principle to the last: the competitors will all be handicapped or classified, as • formerly, and each man will contest probably two games with every other other man .in his own class, and the winner of the largest number of games in his class will be a representative of such class j the representatives will then play each other, probably two games, at the odds of their respective classes, the winner or winners of most games taking the prizes, which ■will, as on the last occasion, be of value according to the number of entries and acceptances. The Committee meet tomorrow evening, to prepare rules, &c.
