KUMARA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The second monthly meeting of the above society was held at tiie Town Hall yesterday afternoon ; present— His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), the Rev. E. A. Scott, the Rev. W. West, and Messrs Blake, Munyard, and Wylde. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The sub-committee of investigation and recommendation reported that two children belonging to a Mrs Hogan, who was at present in the Hospital, had been placed by the Committee in the care of Mrs Bird who was receiving 15s per week for their maintenance. Provision to the extent of 4s had been "supplied Mrs Ritchie; but the Committee recommended that the Secretary place himself in communication with her friends requesting them to again allow her a small weekly allowance (which had been withdrawn in consequence of her intemperate habits), such allowance to come through the Committee, who would see to its judicious expenditure in future. The report was adopted, with the understanding that should Mrs Ritchie again misconduct herself the society would decline to lurther assist her.

The Secretary Was instructed to write to the Westland County Council, Requesting the grant of a sulisidy on behalf of the institution. Accounts to the amount of £l2 18s od, for. provisions supplied to persons in distress during the last three months, were passed for payment, as also an account for £1 lls for medicines. Mr Wylde was appointed Secretary •during the absence of the Rev, E, A. Scott, The Committee then adjourned.
