Orders have been received at Oronstadt to prepare shortly for despatch to the Pacific the ironclad frigate General Admiral, the Atlantic cruiser Zubiaca, and the clipper Pastoon. On arrival of these vessels at Bladivostock they will find the ironclad frigate Menin, the cruiser Asia, and four new clippers—Kreuger, D. Jillot, Razboinik, Naezduik, besides other vessels belonging to the Pacific fleet. The effect of these reinforcements will be to give Russia naval influence in the Pacific superior to any ever enjoyed by her in that quarter of the globe. The necessity of extreme caution in the management of coal mines is evidenced by the report of the accident at the Lady Fair Pit, Newcastle-under-Lyme, published in another column, It will be seen that the accident was caused by the fan used for ventilating the mine forcing the gas out with such force as to penetrate even the gauze of the safety lamp, and caused the explosion, resulting in the loss of sixty lives. It will be seen that although every precaution was used in this Instance, still the mine was not safe.
