NEW ZEALAND LOANS IN 1879.
+ [From the Home News.] The subjoined table will be interestiag to those who invest in New Zealand securities. It shows that, apart altogether from such occasional issues of capital as that which the New Zealand Agricultural Company issues, to a great extent nominal, there is a perBistent absorption of money by local , bodies in the Colony to an extent far ] greater than the public suspects. De- ] ducting the Agricultural Company's capital and the New Zealand Mortgage Company's capital altogether, three small local bodies borrowed last year more than £700,000, and they still continue to come for loans. This propensity, when it is remembered that the whole population of the Colony is less than 500,000, cannot be too jealously watched. The following is a tolerably complete list of the New Zealand loans and capital raised in 1879 :-- Capital..
