MUD THROWING.
[to the editor^] Sir —Will you be so kind as to give these few lines a place in your paper. I see by the West Coast Times of the 16th, 17th, and 18th inst., some comments on Mr Seddon’s election and the small number he polled, I know how it was in this district: it was a very wet day, and many of the miners would not go to the poll, as they said it was’no use going to vote, as Mr Linhell was well known in this district, and they knew he would have no chance against Mr Seddon. Sir, I think a fair amount of criticism by the tublic Press on a public man is good, ut to be always throwing mud at one man, the same as the West Coast Times is at Mr Seddon, it becomes sickening* and I have seen several men lately take'jnp the West Coast Times to read, it down again in disgust, with the remark that they can nothing to put in the papers but abuse of Mr Seddon, and that if Mr Reid has anything to do with the paper how, he is very mean to be continually throwing mud at his colleague. Hoping I have not taken up too touch of your valuable space—l remain, <fec., -■ ‘ C. H. Burgess. Stafford Town, March 19, 1880,
