Dunedln, March 16. Art inquest touching the death of James Murray Dewar, Elizabeth Mary jane Dewar, artd Elizabeth Lindsay Dewarj was opened at the hospital this afternoon, before Mr Thotnas Hocken, District Coroner. The evidence of Thomas Aitchesonj father of the deceased woman, Maty Grant, mother of the deceased, was taken and the inquest adjourned until next day. March 18. !

The remains of the murdered Dewar family were interred in the Southern Cemetry. The procession was a large one.

The inquest on the bodies was fesumed to-day, and further adjourned till to-morrow. Several witnesses were examined, but nothing was elicited connecting the prisoner Butler with the murder.

A destructive fire occurred in South Dunedin last night, destroying Foreman and Johnson’s grocery and dwelling house, Barkley’s cottage, and some stables, besides damaging. Newman’s Hall. It was caused through a kerosene lamp bursting. The following are the correct insurances: on store and dwelling £3OO, in Colonial Office, £260 in Forich Union; on cottage occupied by Barkley, and some stables at the back in possession of Mr Newman. There was also a policy of £6OO, on the hall, in the New Zealand Office. But £IOO will probably cover the damages to the building and fittings by removal. The police are investigating another clue to the supposed incendiarism which occurred last night at Halliwell’s in High street, near Stamper’s house, which was burned down on Saturday evening.
