The conference to be held on the Charitable Aid and Hospital Bill will commence at 2 o’clock in the Town Hall on Wednesday next.
The competition for the district prizes by the local Rifle Contingent will be held on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning next, the annual inspection of arms taking place on the former evening. A triangular rifle match will, we understand, take place on Good Friday, between Hokitika, Greymouth, and Kumara the selection of the local team for the occasion will be made to-morrow from the best scores registered at 200, 400, and 500 yards. A lively little passage of arms took place last evening in Main street, greatly to the amusement of a large, though select, audience between a well-known xxx concocter and a local log trucker, who although not averse to the seductive
influence of malt decoctions, strongly objected to transport the barrels of- his brewer opponent on the strength of what they contained dilly/ The skirmish, though slight, Was largely interspersed with the uiost emphatic adjectives and many walk i-Ounds, the contest eventually ending by the man of beer and the conveyer of timber freely fraternisirig together,. a,nd testing the quality of the liquor ihat causfed tlie dispute;
