The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. TUESDAY, MARCH 16, 1880.

The Hon. the Minister of Public Works yesterday inspected the State School and expressed himself highly pleased with the order and cleanliness of the children, although at the same time he pointed out the want of ventilation in the infant room and the steps that should be taken to remedy this defect, which with the large attendance present was very injurious to the health of the children generally.

A special meeting of the Board of Health was held last evening at the instigation of his Worship the Maydr; Dr Acheson had reported that a Chinaman on the opposite side of the river was suffering from that most loathsome disease leprosy, and that the man had crossed the river into this county. The diseased man, however, again returned home, and steps wei’e immediately taken to prevent him again crossing the boundary line of the two counties. The Greymouth County Chairman who was in town, and Who is Chairman of the Greymouth Board of Health at once, when communicated with, took the necessary steps to have the suffering man at once isolated and attteuded to.

A sitting of the Resident Magistrate’s Court was held by J. Mackay, Esq., R.M. , this morning, the report of which is held over.

Tlie ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held at the Secretary’s dffiod this evening. For tlie iionvemen'ce of those wishing to attend the Grcymouth race's during the present week, an extra tram will leave the tramway station here for Greymouth daily, at noon.

We understand that, as a preliminary step to the holding of future flower and fruit shows periodically in this town; Mr Bladier, of the Arahura, will to-morrow exhibit a choice collection of fruits, as a specimen of what with a little care and attention can be grown on the Coast;

We would remind those wishing to secure an interest in the Grey District Sweep that the drawing takes place this evening.
