NOTICE; JURE VOLATILE EtJCALYI t TU3 GLOBULUS EXTRACT; Under the distinguishe'd patronage of his Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for* Italy, at Melbourne, iipdn instruct tionsfrom the Minister tor Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. We are informed that .dealers in medicine often try to sell the eudylyp* tus oil found in the trade instead of out? Euclyptus Extract. So far as the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is Concerned, the consel- - would not be serious; but as the qualities of both of the prdducta are in many cases directly opposed to ohd another, we consider it our duty td direct the public attention to the foU lowing facts:—The eucalyptus oil is recorded tb be of value as a medicament incases ol rheumatism of secondary nature* and manifests a drawing, Blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brbngkfc on by the ap* plication of a medicament must increase inflamation, and it is therefore evident; that in cases df wounds, colds, brdti* chitis, diptneria, croup, sprains <fec.j the curative power of our extract on the named diseases being unquestion--ably proved by fof infer publications in this paper. An application erf the oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased.
The truth of our assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resinous product equivalent td common turpen* tine, its market value being about three shillings one pound weight; our ex* tract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, soothing and healing in its effects, its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound weight Our extract, the genuine article, is only made up in one half ounce and one ounce vials; vials bearing on the labels our trade mark and signature. SANDER and SONS, Sole Manufacturers of the Eucalyptus Extract. Sandhurst, November, 1878» DUNCAN M'LEAN, "Wholesale Agent for New Zealand. The Extract of the Eucalyptus Globulus, manufactured solely by Messrs Sander and Sons, Sandhurst, recommends itself by the following declaration and testimonials 1— Epitome of declaration made before Moritz Colin, J.P., on the 17th October, 1877, at Sandhurst:—" Three medical gentlemen had attended the son of Mr Baabe, of Ironbark, for nine weeks, and declared that amputation of the leg injured by an axe was absolutely necessary. At this junction Mr Raabe called on Messrs Sander and Sons, procuring some of their Extract of the Eucalyptus Globulus, and by the application of the same he had the satisfaction of seeing his son within a fortnight out of all danger, and he has now quite recovered." Brief Extracts from the Bendigo Evening News : Mr Gieschin, residing near Sydenham Gardens, had a very severe cold in November, could scarcely breathe, and could get no relief. Cured after three applications of the extract. The same gentleman suffered eight years from rupture, and all medical skill proved ineffectual in giving relief. Cured after taking extract internally for six months.
A man having Lis arm bruised severely at a crushing machine, in Long Gully, applied the extract, and the accident did not even necessitate as much as an interruption in his attendance at work.
Mrs Weppner, in Colbinabbia (Runny inede) informed the manufacturers that the extract applied twice restored health to her daughter, eleven years of age, who had been rushed and trampled upon by a cow. In November Mrs Beeves, from the Rifleman's Arms, Back Creek, brought information of a cure of delirium caused by sunstroke, which took place in the family of Mr Ryan, butcher, of Back Creek.
The wife of Mr Fickel suffered in the bend of the knee from a swelling which had formed a lump of considerable size, disabling her from attending to any work. She removed the swelling completely by a continued application of the extract.
The Donald Times, of Ist December,. 1877, states:—Last week the eldest boy of Mr Morgan awoke in the night crying with earache. The extract was applied, and the little fellow was cured and asleep in ten minutes.
