The main thing in Life Insurance is Safety, and the Payment of Government Policies being guaranteed by the Nation, the Security is Indisputable. The Department issues all desirable forms of Policies, up to £3OOO. One Shilling per week, paid to the Government, will secure £IOO to the family of a man aged 39, at death, even if it occurs the day after insuring. Comparison of New Zealand Government Kates With other Companies, which shews the immediate saving—equivalent to a yearly cash bonus, in addition to the bonus every five years. The subjoined figures, referring to Australasiau institutions, are copied from an elaborate and instructive table compiled by Mr M. A. Black, the accomplished Actuary of the leading Aus* tfalian Insurance Company. The table gives examples of the rates of premiums charged by different Offices at the age of thirty-five for an assurance of for the whole term of life by even annual premiums. The " net premium " is £1 IDs sd, being that for a healthy male. According to the table of Institute of Actuaries, what is termed the "loading" as levied by the various Offices, and to which special allusion is now made, is set forth in the table given below :

ABSOLUTE SECURITY FROM LOSS. If from any reason a Policy-holder in New Zealand Government is unable to continue his payments after having made Three Yearly Payments, he can— A. Sell his policy back, for one, generally greater than the amount he has paid, free of all premiums; or, B. He can have Credit, for the premiums in arrear, for nearly half as long again as he has paid, at 6 per cent interest ; or, C. He can have a Loan for 90 per cent, of the surrender value, at 7 per cent interest. A Life Policy is therefore better than money in a Savings Bank.
