The polling for one member to represent this district in the Westland County Council will take ylace to-morrow. The polling booth will open at 9 a in. and close at 6 p.m. Mr W. Linnell, one of the candidates for the vacant seat in the Westland County Council, will address the electors at Dillman’s Town this evening. The Hon. the Minister of Public Works is expected to arrive to-morrow at Greymouth, and will probably visit Kumara early next week. Tickets for the banquet to be given in his honor on that occasion, we may state, are to be obtained fx'om either Mr Gilbert Stewart or Mr Spiers, or, also, from the Town Clerk. We are requested to state that Messrs Tait Brothers, of Hokitika, photographers, have arrived in town, and that their studio in Main street has been reopened for a few days, where they will be happy to interview any of the public who may favor them with their patronage. Tickets in the Greymouth District Sweep (unlimited) on the Greymouth Jockey Club Handicap, which will be run on Wednesday next, caii be obtained of Mr Gilbert Stewart, of this town ; and also of Mr C. Peters, of Dillman’s Town. Early application for an interest in this sweep is necessary as the drawing takes place on Tuesday next. Wo would draw the special attention of those who intend visiting the Greymouth races next week to the fact that the Hibernian Society will hold their annual ball in celebration of St Patrick’s Day on the evening of that day, at the Volunteer Hall, Greymouth.
The Dunedin Star says: “There is A rumor in Oamaru political civeleAhat end x . i of the staunch Greyites who v^p resen t that constituency* is getting sick of the cold shades of Opposition, and yeahlS for the flavour of the Ministerial flesh-pots. Tliis is more than likely, and as both members are pretty shrewd in their generation, they may 1 very possibly be found next Session running iff the Same leash. But what then will become of the ‘ Young New Zealand ’ party, deprived of two most shining lights-. The next rumor currerit will be that the guileless member for Tuapeka has deserted. Mr De Lauloilr, aiid left that Warwick of the filtiife witlldiut any following but his own shadow.”
