THE CHAMPIONSHIP*. The winner of the Champion Rifle Belt of New Zealand for the present year is Corporal Okey, of the’Taranaki Volunteers, who made the splendid score of 279 points out of a possible 316, which* irrespective of the various money priites he: won in the several matches in which he Competed, and the rifle champion belt,- entitles him to the gold medal of the NeW Zealand Rifle Association* and £so, The following are the-conditions rinded which the champion belt Was Competed for as published in the programme Of the Rifle Association -—The highest aggregate scorer in matches Nos. 8, 4* 7, and 11, who - shall produce it Certificate of efficiency for the YolUntCfer year rinded 3;lst March, 1879, shall be the Volunteer Rifle Champion. fOr IdSO, and entitled to hold the belt, fed 12 months/’ The ranges and number of Chofs at each, in the matches named* are as follow : —No. 2—ten rounds- at 200 yards; No. 4—SeVen roUndC St 400, 500, and 600 yards: No.- 7 Seven rounds at 2Oof, 400, 500, amt 600 yards and No.- 11—Ten founds at 200 and 900 yards—thifs making a total of seventy-nine Shots to be fired in the Various matches. TW aggregate score made by Corp Oral Obey,- the Champion was as under 2nd Match... ... ...- 4tH Match ... . ... ...- 79 7th Match 40l 11th Match... 69 27fl The winner shot exceedingly well Id last years .meeting, taking several good prizes.
