BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, March 4. Three Per Cent. Consols, 97|; bank rate remains unchanged. The Bank of England weekly returns show a total reserve in notes and bullion of <£16,625,000. Adelaide wheat and flour, and Australian tallow, remain as at last quotations. At the wool sale to-day 9900 bales were offered. The tone of the sale was firm and bidding active. St. Petersburg, March 4. Moodeskey, Nihilist, who was arrested in connection with the recent attempt on the life of General Mfelikoff, has been tried and foiind guilty of the offence. He has been sentenced to death, and will- be hanged immediately. A N ihilist propaganda has been issued expressing regret at the failure of the explosion at the Winter Palace, and stating that attempts on the life of the Czar will be made unless he abdicates, or grants the reform of the Constitution demanded by the Nihilists. • ♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. IVlelbourne, March 5. The new Ministry was sworn, in today. The Hon. W. J. Clarke has resolved to sell his shed of horses and retire from the turf. March 6. The last day’s races of the Autumn Meeting took place to-day. There was a better attendance than either of the previous days. The Newmarket Handicap was won by Caspisfi, with Japan 2nd, and His Lordship 3rd. A close finish. The Town Plate was won by Columbus. The racing throughout the day was very good. Adelaide, March 5. New Zealand oats selling at 2s 6d. March 6. The market for breadstuff’s is quiet. Town flour is Worth £ll to £ll ss; country brands £lO 10s to £lo 15s. The P. and O. Company’s steamship Bangalore, with the inward Suez mail, arrived at King George’s Sound. It has measles aboard. One death has occurred on the passage. Wheat is quoted to-day at 4s 9d.
