At tlie District Court; before Judge Ward, Jeremiah Kelly; Lawrence' Towers, Patrick O'Shea, Prtrick O'Ccm*: nor, James Watson, John Deiriberg; Maurice Moynahan, Thomas O'PHscoll, and Daniel O'Keefe were tried for aiding and abetting in the Timaril riots. Both Stout, for defence, and Duncan, as Crown Prosecutor, addressed the jury at great length. The jury found all the prisoners guilty but O'Keefe, Kelly, and Watson, Lift recommended them to mercy. Stout said he would move for a new trial on. the grounds of misdirection, and the accused were remanded till ten to-mor-row, when the point will be arguei; Ohristchurch, March 2. The Hon. the Minister of Lands leaves oh an official tour through the North Island, to-morrow. He will be absent froni Wellington for a month. A cablegram has been sent by the Government to the Agent-General, impressing on him the urgent necessity of all intending ] immigrants being fully informed of the prevalent depression in the Colony. Thirty-five thousand white fish ova havo been successfully liberated in Lake Coleridge. Only 500 died on the vt&j up.
