NEW MAIL ARRANGEMENTS.
Further information transpired *to'day relative 'to the new arrangement wit!h reference to the San Francisco mail. It appears that the outward mail will continue to leave on the dates fixed in the time-table, time being saved between Auckland and London. "With regard t 6 the inward mail, it has been found time could be easily saved 'on parts of the route, so that the London mails will reach San Francisco on Saturday mornings, enabling the steamers to leave the same day. Besides 'this, the Pacific Mail Company have intimated their intention of instructing their captaihs to use all expedition on tlie transpacific passage, and they express the conviction that it will be practicable to save a clear day On the "average at a very slightly increased cost. If so the inward mails will reach Auckland Wen a day earlier than jiamed, arriving on Sunday instead of Wednesday, The Government are r cdmmunicatsng with the TJnion Company regarding the possibility of arranging with them for transmission of ,the mail direct from Auckland to Wellington, so far as the Otago, Canterbury, Wellington, Marl borough, And Southland poitiong are concerned. Tinder this system the mails will reach Auckland in thirty-eight days, arriving there on Sunday, Wellington on Monday (thirty-nine days), Christchurch "’and Dunedin. Tuesday, forty days, and ■‘at the outside forty-one days, tinder The new arrangement the March mail .steamer will leave San Francisco on Saturday, the 13th prox., insteadof on Monday, the 15th, as announced in The time-table, arriving at Auckland on Sunday, 4th April, instead of Wediiesday, 7th. The incoming mail, leaving San Francisco on the 17th instant, will run according to the former arrangement.—Correspondent of Ch'rist"church Press.
