A BROTHER AND SISTER MARRY
A Yandalia (Ohio) despatch to the Cincinnati Inquirer ’ of the 14fchDecember says . —“ A young and respectable-looking couple, brother and sister, named Fred and Louisa Rauckmann, son and daughter of quite a respectable farmer residing in Lone Grove township, about twenty miles from this city, boarded the train a few days ago, went to St. Louis, and were made husband and wife. They remained In the city a day or two, then returned homeward, getting off the train at Brownston, a station eight miles from this place, and for fear of being detected, wandered out in the woods near the town, and remained there until found and arrested to-day by Constable Joseph Copeland. The man is about twenty-one years of age, and of good appearance, and his sister nineteen ,and rather good-looking. When asked why he was induced to commit such an act, he said . “ My sister loved me so well we thought the best thing we could do' would be to get married.” He was further asked if be did not know it was wrong and against the law to do so, and also why they hid themselves in the woods and kept away from their parents. This he answered by saying “ We did not know it was wrong, and only hid in the woods for fear of being discovered by our folks, as they were very much opposed to our marrying.” Their parents are very repsectable people, and are sadly grieved over the unparalled act of their children. They were tried, found guilty, and were bound over, the man’s bond being fixed at 500 dols and the woman’s at SOOdol, in default of) which they were committed to the Country Goal. The affair has created great excitement.
