KUMARA LITERARY INSTITUTE LIBRARY.

We remind our readers and the pilblie generally that the library id Connection with the Literary Institute in this town Will be opened for the first time this evening, between the hours of f and 9 o’clock. This long-felt want having been overcome by the managing Committee, it is to be hoped that their efforts to provide suitable readiug for the people of this district will now be backed up by all lovers of literature, so that by an increase iu the number of subscribers, the library now started may be speedily augmented by the purchase of more books. There are two catalogues, we observe, And although the first order for rieW books has not yet been completed, the library will be started with about 170 Volumes. Valuable presents of books have been received by the Committee—two dozen volumes from Dr. James (of Hokitika), also from the Rev. E. A. Scott, Messrs Drummond, Barnett, Connell, Janioa, Thomas, Coghlan, Mesdames Schultheis, Barker, and Ritson,, Messrs PoU lock, Finlayson, Wells, , M'Fetrick, Nicholson, Flaherty, and Schulstad j and the Committee have the promise of many more. The library will be open for obtaining and renewing bookaj from Mr Burger, who is the Librarian* on Wednesdays and Saturdays only at present, between the hours of 11 and 12 o’clock in the morning, and between 7 and 9 in the evenings of the same days. The subscription to the library* which admits also to the reading room, is £1 per annum, or 6s per quarter, so that it may be said to be within the reach of all classes, and young andold.
