A NOVELTY IN PIANOS.

ET The Dunedin Star says,—Through H the courtesy of Mr. J Thorn Wright, t, the inventor, only lately arrived in the K Colony, we have been shown what may F fee latest improvement in ' keyed instruments, a combination of --*tbe piauo and harmonium. This union ' has been ftequently before now attempted, but it seems to have been left for ~ Mr Wright to effect it in the most sirapie and complete manner. The arrange- ' xnent merely consists in placing a har■gnomum specially constructed beneath Bhe key boards of a pianoforte also E adapted to l'eceive it, and by means of E.fods on the underside of the keys of the Ipriano, when they are thrown into gea,r Kthe harmonium's keys are pressed updii, Bpnd additional richness imparted to the Rone by the percussion of the hammer Fon the string. At pleasure the two inpscruments can be played together or W aeparately, or the notes of an air can be ■Bustained with one hand, while an arttjeggio accompaniment is carried on Hwith the other. Or should it be deRurable to. use one instrument alone, or E that two persons should play together, r one on each instrument, the two can be detached without trouble and used £as separate instruments. Musicians I* need hardly be informed as to the novel and charming effects which-this simple arrangement .is capable of producing. Mr Wright has. brought with, him a very handsome instrument of the be3t 'Snake. Its tone isfu'jf and the touch [; just what pianists desire. Not withit: standing the necessity for some slight alterations in the. arrangements in order to combine the two, there is nothing to detract from the elegance of structure, and every part is so adjusted as to provide easy means for execution and effect.
