DEATH OF AHMED MUKHTAR PASHA.
Vienna, November. 18. From Cettinje comes the rather alarming intelligence that according to the news received there, Ahmed Mukhtar Pasha, Bent by the Porte with orders to effect the surrender fo the Montenegrins of Gusinje and Plava, near the sources of the Lim, has been killed by the Albanians. According to one account he was killed at Gnstinje, according to another at Berany, lower down the Lim. The Montenegrin troops, as may be remembered, made some time ago a forward movement towards the Upper Lim valley to occupy the districts ceded to Montenegro by the treaty; but encountering a considerable Albanian force determined apparently to resist their progress, they made a halt, addressing remonstrances to the Turks to fulfil their treaty obligations The Turks, previously desiring an arrangement, had proposed tothe Montenegrins to exchange the above named districts for territory along the river Lim and the lake of Scutari. Negotiations were carried on for this purpose, leading, however, to no understanding. At length the Porte sent orders tovAhmed Mukhtar Pasha to take 20 battalions and effect by force, if the surrender of Gusinje to the * M@fen%rins. This at least is the version that came a few days ago from Constantinople.' If Buch an order was really given, those giving , it can hardly have been aware of the difficulty of Bending so many battalions from Scutari at this time of the year on the wild track across the ProkletPass, in the central Albanian range,, into the valley of the Lim, near the source of which Gusinje lies. At any rate Mukhtar Pasha, either thinking that such an undertaking would require a long time or confident in his own authority, seems, like Mehemet Ali, to have proceeded in.that direction with only a small escort, mesting with the Bame fate as Mehemet. However regretable the loss of a brave .M :,like Mukhtar, it has established-beyond doubt the sincerity of the Porte in these transactions, and that it was no nidre subterfuge on its part when the difficulties arid dangers of precipitating the surrender without due preparation were urged by it, with the request for more time.
