Wellington, January 11. A stabbing case occured on Friday night. It appears that two seamen belonging to the barque Bebington had a fight, when one of them named Alexanper Martin took a sheath knife and severely stabbed the other man in the neck, making three incised wounds. It i-< stated that captain and the doctor of the barque tried to hush up the matter, but the police getting wind of it have arrested Martin for unlawfully wounding. January 12. Ludwig, a well-known jeweller, died on Saturday ) and Shaw, also a wellknown jeweller, died last night. Dropsy was the cause of death in each case. The civil sittings of the Supreme Court have been adjourned. Alexander Martin, for cutting and wounding, is remanded.

Firth to undertake the packing and transfer of white ova from the mail steamer and forward them to their destination. The total number of boxes was 41, eleven of which are for Auckland. It was agreed that Firth should deposit the ova in Lakes Tarawera and Taupo, the Council guaranteeing the expenses of transport. Firth said he would hatch one of the parcels in the Domain ponds by means of experiment and afterwards place the young fish in Lake Waikato, January 11. The mail steamer Australia from San Francisco is coming up the harbor. The Anglican mission for merchant seamen in the port has been inaugurated.
