At an agitation ineeting at Castlereagh, Connaught, the Government reporters were savagely assaulted, and rescued with' difficulty. .. ■ December 8. The Queen continues to improve. Her Majesty decorated a number of officers with the Order of the Bath at Windsor. Brendan has been committed for trial, bail being allowed. It has been notified that the New Zealand Govern merit will abstain from any fresh loan for a period of three years. An excited meeting of six thousand people was held at Castlereagh. The committee refused to admit Government reporters, who atlended under police protection. The police presenting their rifles repelled an onslaught en the reporters. Parneil prevented a collision. Great floods occurred in .Grosward em in Hungary. Thousands are homeless. Adjoining villages are threatened. December 11. The New Zealand loan has been completely successful. Tenders were opened to-day, Nearly three times the amount required has been subscribed. Calcutta, December 8. The Ghilgais and other tribes at Eerowla cut off the supplies going to Cabul. The brigades uuder Baker and Macpherson were despatched to attack and punish them. December 12. Notwithstanding the complete measures taken by General Roberts to prevent hostilities, an outbreak, followed by a general vising,, has taken place near Cabul. ten thousand Afghans, commanded byMahonied Khan, attacked a force cf British cavalry and artillery going to join IVlTlierscn's brigade, which was ordered to punish the tribes. The British made a desperate, defence, and were compelled to spike four guns, which were afterwards recovered from the enemy. Latest .news states tliat fighting continues. The British loss is unknown. The Afghans suffered heavy loss.
