Accordiug to a telegram from the Agent-General it is believed a new loan could be placed very nearly at par, there having been a recovery of confidence in "New Zealand loan. Last advices to Government, received 1 by Government, dated Bth October, reported New Zealand. Five Per Cents at 100| to 101. Four and a half Per Cents at 96$ to 97. A. few weeks after the Five Per Cents stood at 103. Since the news of the loan, Ministers have been remodelling the Public Works Statement, which will be delivered tonight, and wired by Government to all papers. d£ Strict instructions have been issued to the Collectors of Customs at the various ports to require that the value of goods be Correctly given, in order that the annual returns may be more correct than heretofore. It has been ascertained thaE previously the value of goods shipped used to be overstated*
The licensed victuallers, f.fter considering the alterations in the tariff, have resolved to make a charge of sispence extra on each bottle of spirits.
