THE CHESS HANDICAP TOURNAMENT.

The chess handicap tourney seems to < 0 exciting much interest, not merely amongst the players themselves, but large circles of their friends. We therefore give below the result of the first week’s play, which is taken from the records kept at the Institute and at Rugg’s Hotel, which more clearly shew than our space will allow the actual scores, man against man, as every competitor plays every other only one game. Although the number of games required to be played by each competitor

is only on an average three a week, we observe several have far exceeded that number, whilst others, notab’y good players, have been hanging back. Competitors. Won. Lost. CLASS I.
