In regard to the proposed railwaydeviation, the evidence lias been taken of Messrs Blair and O’Ccnnor, and the evidence of the Registrar-General and Messrs Wylde and Lahman is to he taken to-morrow, and a x'eport made, which will probably be in its favor. A deputation, consisting of -Messrs Seddon and Wylde, waited on the Minister of Public Works and Lands, and the Colonial Treasurer, re local matters. Burt’s foundry to-day. * William Petrie was received into Dunedin Hospital yesterday, suffering from a gun-shot wound received while out shooting at Mullocky Gully on Sunday. He was walking in front of a companion, when the gun went off at half cock, and Petrie received the charge in his right elbow and side. Wanganui, November 29. A Native prisoner escaped from
_ Wanganui Gaol last evening. He was as yardsman, and watching his opportunity when no one was looking, climbed the fence and bolted towards the racecourse. Some boys saw him, gave chase, and overtook him in a paddock. They guarded him till a Warder arrived and resumed charge. The boys were quite young, but behaved pluckiiy.
