KUMARA STATE SCHOOL.
ANNUAL EXAMINATION. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday last, t helnspector of-the Westland district, Mr J. Smith held his annual examination of the scholars of the Kuimu'a State School. The result of this examination is one that can, but be highly gratifying to the parents of the children, and also it reflects the greatest credit on the staff of the school generally, inasmuch as of the 245 children who went up, 241 of that number successfully passed the Inspector’s official and stringent examination. Taking the percentage, we find that in passes the school stands at the splendid average of 98.3G7 percent., while in marks 80 per cent, are recorded. Under the present regulation all girls who are systematically and efficicieutly instructed in needlework are allowed a reduction of 10 per cent, of the marks necessary to pass the standards ; but unfortunately, through some inadvertence, the needlework of the first class was not shown to the examiners, consequently the girls of that class were not granted this concession. The following is the Inspector’s Report. The general condition of the School is satisfactory. The order of the school and discipline, on the whole, good. The Infant department, however, was rather noisy, and the children were allowed to shout out their rhymes in a deafening manner. The Infant Room is much too crowded. The distribution of the classes in the manner I have several times recommended would remedy the evil. The outbuildings are in a satisfactory state of cleanliness. ihe Head Teacher should impress upon all his assistants the necessity of being punctual in their attendance. ihe results of the Examination are, generally speaking, satisfactory. John Smith, Inspector of Schools, District of Westland. RESULTS OF EXAMINATION. Fifth Class. Total possible No. of Marks - - 545. 1. AVm. Yoysoy ... ... 53,G 2. Emily Wylde ... ... 517 3.
