CHILDRENS’ NEW YEAR’S TREAT.
In accordance with a meeting convened by his Worship the Mayor td form a Committee for the purpose of organising and carrying out the annual treat for the children of this district on New Year’s Day a number of the inhabitants assembled at the Town Hall last evening for that purpose. The Mayor, who occupied the chair* briefly explained the object of the meetingi Mr Munyard was appointed Secretary ; and the following Committee was then formed j—His Worship the Mayor, the Rev. E. A, Scott Rev* Father M‘Oanghey, Rev. W. West, Rev. C. S. Carlick, and Messrs Wilson, Drummond, Hanna, Dnngan* H. Brown* Duggan, O'Hagan, Pearn, Pearson, Connell, Watharn, Petrie, Seddon* Bain, Campbell Wylde, Singer, Iteenan, Todd, Benetti, Pollock* and Gallandi The Secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Council requesting the use of the Town H.-fll for holding meetings of the Committee. It was resolved to ask Messrs Kerr* Arnott, &Co to supply gratis 100 subscription lists* similar to those issued the previous year. A deputation consisting of the Rev, E, A. Scott* Rev. Father M‘Caughey* Rev. W. West, and the Chairman* were appointed to wait on MessrC Eeech and Molloy, relative to obtaining the use of their pxlduck for the child ren on New Years Day. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Schultz relative to the services of a hand for the occasion. The Meeting then adjourned until 8 p.m, on Monday next.
