Sydney, November 17. A telegram from Gnndagai to-night states that a desperate encounter took place between the police and bushrangers. Two of the latter were shot dead .and one wounded. Two surrortiered and one escaped. One of the constables wore seriously wounded in the affray. Arrived—Rotomahana. In tire forty-eight hours’ walking contest Edvards was winner. He walked 153 miles. Brisbane, November 15. A destructive fire has occurred at Port Douglas. Walsh’s store and Linder’s hotel have been completely destroyed. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.
