T In the Qualification of Electors' Bill, /Montgomery's amendment to restrict persons to one vote in the Colony was negatived in the House of Representatives, by 30 to 25; November 8. About twenty members left by the s.s. Hinemoa. for Christchuvch, to see the Agricultural Show. They will be back on Wednesday. Cheistchukch, November 7. Edgar Osborne Was, to-day committed for trial for arson* About 135 passes have been issued up to the present by the Public Works Department. The Weka Pass and Albury extensions are sufficiently supplied with men for the present, but passes are still issued to thoce desirous of going to any part of the country to look for Work. At a meeting of the Liberal Association last night, the secretary was in structed to forward a telegram to Mr Macandrew, M.H.R., informing him that the Canterbury Liberal Reform Association fully agree with his proposed amendment re the qualification of electors. The man William?, charged with having smuggled tobacco in his possession, was fined LIOO to-day, at Lyttelton, or imprison merit until the fine is paid. Timaru, November 7. The completion of the first section of the breakwater Was celebrated to-day by a banquet held in the railway goods shed, to which about 300 sat down. Afterwards the members of the Rocket Brigade and the late employees of the contractors were entertained at another banquet. Previous to the banquet, presentations were made on the breakwater to Allen and Stumble, the contractor, 'ihe weather was fine, and the day observed as half a holiday by all c'asses of the community. The proceedings passed off with great eclat.
