Captain Webb, master of the schooner Pride of Logan, reports the massacre of eight persons belonging to his vessel at Cloudy Bay, New Guinea • three were Europeans, three Chinese, and two Malay women. Webb states that he had been fishing on a reef, and on returning found the schooner gutted and the Natives trying to heave the vessel ashore. Jumping aboard he cut the hawser and stood out to sea. He returned next day, but saw nothing of the crew, and concluded they were all murdered. H.M. schooner Spitfire proceeds to Cloudy Bay. It is believed that that the Government will refuse to attend tie proposed Intercolonial conference at Sydney. TASMANIA. The new coalition Ministry consists of Giblin, Premier and Treasurer ; Dodds, Attorney-General ; O'Niell, Lands and Works ; Moore, Colonial Secretary; Dr Agnew, without office. It is considered likely to be a strong Ministry.
