ANOTHER ARTIST’S TROUBLE,

Artists have their sad raonieilts as well as the rest of ns, and they sometimes get into jail, as well as the rest of ns. Recently a young man named Conrad Heigler, living on Maple street,, dashed off a charming landscape, about the size of a table-cloth, and stood it outdoors against the house to dry. In the foreground of the painting was a horsebarn, and as the picture was drying, along came a dog ot inquiring mind and zealous disposition. Seeing the well executed horse-barn, ho at once decided that there might be rats under it, and in trying to go under the barn he went through the canvas. The artist happened to come around the comer of the house just then, and in his rage and mortification he armed himself with an axe and pursued the dog, whooping and yelling for half-a-mile. His conduct drew a crowd and raised a breeze, and the artist kept it up so long that he had to be taken down, “ Who pays me for dose paintings V’ he asked as soon as he walked before the bar. “ Indeed, I don’t know,” replied his Honor. “This court has nothing to do either with the painting or the dog. We must look the real charge in the face*” “ I looks nopody in tier face until I gets eu dollar !” exclaimed the prisoner. “ You disturbed the peace.” “ And der dog disturbed me !” “ Why didn't you hang your picture up ” “Yh'/ didn’t der dog go some other vhay T I think I would be justified in imposing a fine, but it you can go peaceably about your business I will suspend sentence.”

“ I goes und sues somebody for ten dollar!’’ replied Conard, waving his arms around like a windmill, and he started on a dead run for a justice office. For remainder of news see last page.
