It is stated that the Government will bring down their financial proposals on Friday next, and the Public Works H.itement early in the following week. The price has been dropped ys a hundred, and applicants for work are much more numerous than billets to be obtained. Thomas Kelly, alias Anglican, was brought up at the Resident Magistrates Court to-day, charged with failing to appear at the Supreme Court, on January G last, to answer a charge of perjury. He had been arrested on a description published in the Police Gazette. At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Waimate, yesterday, Alfred Fisher, late proprietor of the Tribune, Waimate, was committed for trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court, Timaru, for alleged libel on one Samuel Green, a farmer. The libel was contained in a letter written to the Tribune during the election. A young man named Christian was found dead in a paddock near Saltwater Creek to-day. A bullet wound was found in his left side, while beside Was a single barreled gun. There is little doubt he committed suicide. No motive is known for the same. He had over L3O in his possession. Timaru, November 1. 'The first contract of the breakwater has been successfully compieteh by Messrs Allan and Stumbles this morning. It extends about 500 ft from the beach. The depth of water ranges up to Lift at low tide at the outer end.
