A HEAVY BLAST.
A' large blasting operation at the O'lten 1 Osmond quarries, near Adelaide ! fook place on Sept. 15. Emm'the report in the South Australian Advertiser, we learn that GGOOIb of powder And 410’Hi of dynamite were used as a charge, aim that, wiieu the shot was fired, :* “ stupendous mass of earth and rock was seo.n to be tottering, and then roll down tile side of the nioiiieutai ilyconvjiiKed mountain like a tremendous dataract. grand in it), pe .ivtu e, blfc still terrible to behold:, Th-> estimated quantity of ..stone and earth in be shined Was 9777 cubic yards. After the fallen fock and debris had settled down, an examination was made to ,-ee whether the results were equal to what was an. tfiteipated, when it was found that the
effect of the shot was so far satisfactory that about one-half over the quantity expected had been shifted. The cost of the work has been between £-150 tind £SOO, and the blast has done with three months’ labor what would in the ordinary way haVe taken some two years.” For remainder of news see last page.
