THE NEW TRACK TO CAPE TERRACE.
♦ - The special meeting of tire County Council was held last evening. Pre* sent: —The County Chairman (in the chair), Councillors, Reid, Boa.se, Madden, Ellis, Clifford, and Foley. The meeting met to consider the Questions of rescinding Councillor Clifford's resolution relative to “no new works being,undertaken,.”., ike., and the making of a pa'ck track to the pew rush at Westbrook.—The- Cfiairman tnbved that the resolution standing in Councillor Clifford’s name, so far as relating to the making of the proposed track/ be rescinded.—This was seconded by Cr Ellis.—Cr Boase then moved an amendment virtually rescinding the whole of Cr Clifford’s resolution'.,—Cr Reid seconded the amendment.'—After' some discussion, in which Crs Clifford l and Madden opposed the amendment, it was lost, and the original; motion carried,—lt was thbn resolved that the" prayer of the petition be dealt ’Aith, —' The Chairman then moved' that the' Road Surveyor be requested Co prepare’ an estimate of the cost,of constructing a! track.—A discussion ensued, ih ther course" of which a report was handed 1 from the Road Surveyor, who was too' ill to attend, stating that he had visited’ the’ claims and found them yielding; from Igr to l2gr to the dish with 4ft of wnshdirt, and would pay from ordinary wages to £8 per week per man y that front 60 to 80 chains had been' taken itp. He recommended Chat thff track be made to Tansey’s Creek, which 1 would cost from £2OO to £250. and 1 open up a large extent of country.— The Chairman moved that the track, as' recommended by tile Surveyor, be con-' strncted.—"After some discussion, in' the course of which Cr Clifford im-' pressed on the Councillors the necessity of the work benefrtting tbte" Grey’ County, and Cr Madden urging that the track be extended to Deep'..Greeks so as to connect with Cameron’s Track,as. Tansey’s Creek led to nowhere, it' was resolved that tenders be called for constructing a track as fay as- Tansey’s' Creek, Ana that the' Road’ be directed to prepare plans 4nd specifications for the making of a track to connect with Cameron’s Track at' Deep* Creek.—G.
