It was generally believed that -Melville had secreted ti considerable amount of plunder somewhere in the Dundas Hange, the proceeds of some of his bushranging Expeditions; but,so far nothing of the sort has rewarded the search of those who have explored the cave. Captain Melville, it will be remembered, was tiiidergoing a sentence of 32 years’ hard labor when he .headed the first outbreak of i-cvicts at Wiiliamstowu; Which lesnlfed in the death of a bqattnan named Owen Owens, for killing whom with a-.,jammer Melville was was sentenced to death in November 1856.
