[to XHftf EOITOR.] . Slß—At the last meeting of the Borough Council it was remarked that the revenue of the Borough was beings defrauded by the noninterference of the Police in carrying out the bye-laws, and especially the clauses relating to places of public amusement, besides' other matters. Gnr Inspector of nuisances, forsooth, considers his accepted duties (infra dig). The Police cannot interfere, the Tbwn Clerk c mid not be expected personally to do so, but mjiny think he liiight do a little more than he does in the carrying out of our local code. I would not advocate the exaction of the pound of flesh, lint would crave the protection of tlie Council in Matters when the evasion of their laws entails hardship ,and loss upon those ■ivlio conform to them.—l am, &c., Ratepayer Kumara; Sept. 19th, 1879.
