This is no ordinary daub, but a picture that may well grace the walls of any gallery of art. The colors of sea, and the representation of the splendour of the great Eastern Metropolis, | with its magnificient domes and spires, and columns rising high above the densely packed houses and palaces, are well calculated to entrance the eye, and awaken admiration. Next in artistic value are the splendid pictures of the River Danube and the fastnesses of Bulgaria, with its romantic scenery: Views are given of the Russians crossing the Danube, [ and the excitement and bustle in the Turkish villages, when the luxurious harems and peasants' huts were disturbed by the approaching invaders are depicted with admirable vividness. There is something to pity as well as amuse in the scenes that the artist has produced. The features are particularly well brought out ; for the colors and contrasts are vivid, and by a skilful contrivance the glare of the canon and the roar of artillery are produced with striking fidelity. The panorama is valuable as a work of art, for it is skilfully painted, and the colors are peculiarly vivid. Besides this, it has the merit of novelty and the fact that it is no hastily prepared production, but a truly elaborate work must give it an enhanced value in the estimation of all who witness it. We can recommend all who desire to enjoy a truthful and effective representation of Eastern scenery, and especially of the incidents of the late war, to pay the Queen's a visit before the season terminates. A word of commendation is due to Mr Harry Stanley, the lecturer, whose descriptions are crisp, full of instruction, and racy, while his songs alternatively elicit unbounded mirth, and stir up a warm feeling of patriotic enthusiasm."
