accompany Mr Grace to Ohinemuri, with a view to assist Mr Sheehan in his endeavors to have the Maoris who fired on the survey a’ handed over to justice, hut Rewi was thrown from his horse, and received a severe shock to the system. lie is much hurt and quite helpless, and had to be lifted out of the waggon when brought to Kihikihi. The old man is now coming round, and he says those who committed the outrage are recent converts to Te Whiti. Sept. 4. The latest news from the Bay of Island says there are four Natives killed and ohe wounded it is feared mortally. Three others are wounded seriously. The bodies will he recovered dto-ay. The Natives will* shortly hold a meeting to consider the matter when they may decide to seek revenge. None of the men killed are of high rank, but both parties iu dispute are strongly, backed.
