NEW MAGAZINE RIFLE.
An invention Has been patented by One of the late chief mechanicians ot the Dmall-arm manufactory at St ever which is attracting much attention in Austria .. and Germany, since, should its practical application prove feasible it will add ▼erj greatly to the power of muskctery fire. The invention consists of an apparatus, described as veiy simple in design and destruction by which any ordinary breech-loading rifle can whenever it , may be desired, be temporarily converted . into a repeating arm. The apparatus holds I'D cartridges and can be carried by the soldier in his pocket. When necessary it can be fitted on the rifle in moment when the ten rounds can be : fired juat as rapidly as the same mun- ,, ber of cartridges cuu .be discharged from -v any .magazine rifle. . The inventor has - submitted his apparatus which has been recently materially simplified and improved by Werndl, the well known small-arms manufacturer to the Imperial . War Ministry, .and a series of experiment are, it is stated, fo bn shortly . carried out with ifcl Of the importance of the invention should it be found possible to apply it in practice 'there can "be no doubt.
