CARLESSNESS AND ILLIBERALITY.
An act of singular carelessness, nearly resulting in the loss of about £SOOO, has just been reported. It appem s-Tiat a billiard-marker engaged at the Leicester, Leicestei-square, discovered a few days ago, beneath one of the settees in the billiard- room, a leather K-ig, which he handed To The proprietor. As no inquiries \yere made for. it up to do ing time, the bag \va- opened, when the contents were,.found to consist of banknotes, bills, acceptances, an l .gu'd to the value, of nearly £SOOO. It Ims since transpired that the bag ;be!nn . ; ed to a geut(,euu\n, (be principal of a huge commertial establishment in London, who, being too late to pay the money into the bank and meeting with some friends, went with them to the above establishment, and inadvertently left the bag where it was found, but did nob discover his loss until his arrival at his country residence. It was then too late to telegraph or return to London Early the next morning the bag was recovered, the owner rewarding the finder with 55.! The rom where the bag was discovered was a public one.
