The cost will be delrayed by a Joint Stock Association, with a Capital of 10,000,000 dollars. At a meeting of Catholic Bishops who attended the dedication in New Aork at the Cathedral, measures for the liquidating Archbishop Purcell’s affairs were considered. Cardinal M'Croskey presided, and an address to the clergy signed by 30 Bishops, asking lor compensation and aid will be issued. More Indian affrays in the mountains are leported. In twenty hours fighting with fifty Indians, four white men made good their escape with loss of horses and waggons, after killing eleven redskins. A new Catholic Cathedral on Fifth Avenue, New York, was opened with great pomp on the 25 h Ma ; Thirty archbishops and bishops from other States part!ipated. The cathedral will hold 19,050,. and seat 14.160. Four mdli m dollars have been spent in its construction, and 600,000 dollars are yet needed to finish the building. The Presbyterian Genearl Assembly at Saratoga is greatly exercised about the spread of Romanism in the new States territories. The United States Senate passed an appropriation of 20,000 dollars for the expenses of the commission of the Sydney and Melbourne Exhibitions. A French menagerie at Detroit was burned on May 22. One elephant, five lions, a zebra, leopard, stag, and other valuable animals perished. General Grant’s friends disclaim any intention on his part to re-enter public life. Secretary Sherman’ puts himself in nomination for the Presidency, fading Grant,Sherman isthechoice of the Banks and the ring. A letter from Pimtas Arenas, mentions the loss of a vessel, on board of which were the English Vice-Consul, Miss Lunsmofe and to other foreigners. General Sir Palk M, Dougallj Com-mander-iu-Chief of bf. M. Forces in British North A merica, has been, called to England for special service.
